This Sims 3 mod does what we’ve all dreamed of – it allows you to create multi-story apartment buildings with several different sim families living on a single lot. Now you can control the lives of several families on one lot (although one family can still only be active at a time.)
The mod is controlled by right clicking on sims which allows you to set your active family and choose the settings you want to use for the mod.
The mod creator reccomends setting a cap of four families per lot, though the number could theoretically go much higher than that, you could also make your computer’s CPU go and cry in the corner. So there’s that to consider.

To get multiple families living in one Sims 3 building, you first need to merge all the families you want living in your new Sims 3 apartment complex. Once you’ve done that, you can right click on any one of the new members and set ‘Families’. The menu will allow you to select a family from the list of sims living on the lot. You can name this family, set the amount of funds it has, and also set the rent.
(A note about rent: though it looks as if you are setting rent on a per family basis, you’re actually setting it for the whole apartment building, so keep in mind that which ever family is active when the rent is paid 9:00 am sharp on Monday will have to pay the rent for all families in the building. It is sometimes easier to leave the rent set to 0.)
The great advantage of The Sims 3 Apartment mod is it means you can have quick access between families, so if you want to create a legacy between two families, having them both in the same building is a way to do that. It’s also a nice way to see the comings and goings of more than just your active family – in fact, you could theoretically add several families and only ever play one of them, whilst watching the others go about their daily tasks.

Families can be redefined and re-shuffled at any time, so if you get sick of a sim, or if your sims get sick of one of their family members, they can be removed from the Sims 3 apartment complex altogether, or assigned to their own solo family.
